Description

Experience the healing benefits of lymphatic drainage therapy at Massage by Adi. This gentle treatment enhances your body’s natural ability to eliminate toxins and reduce swelling, promoting overall health and vitality.

Manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) is a gentle massage technique designed to stimulate the flow of lymph fluid, aiding in the reduction of swelling and promoting healing in soft tissues.

The Vodder method, which is the lymphatic drainage technique I am trained in, is particularly effective in reducing swelling after surgery (including tummy tuck/abdominoplasty) and in cases of sprains or strains in the limbs, as it helps decrease edema and supports the body’s natural recovery processes.

Why Choose Lymphatic Drainage Therapy?

Lymphatic drainage massage is a specialized technique that encourages the movement of lymph fluids around the body. This process is essential for removing waste and toxins from bodily tissues. By stimulating the lymphatic system, this therapy can:

  • Enhance Immune Function: By facilitating the removal of toxins and waste products, it supports a healthier immune system.
  • Promote Healing: Assists in reducing post-surgical swelling and accelerates recovery by improving circulation and decreasing inflammation.
  • Alleviate Chronic Conditions: Provides relief for individuals suffering from migraines, fibromyalgia, and other chronic ailments by reducing pain and discomfort.

Benefits of Manual Lymphatic Drainage for Sprains and Strains:

  • Reduces Swelling: MLD encourages the movement of lymph fluid away from injured areas, decreasing inflammation and associated discomfort.
  • Accelerates Healing: By enhancing lymphatic circulation, MLD facilitates the removal of waste products and excess proteins from the tissues, promoting a more efficient healing environment
  • Alleviates Pain: The gentle, rhythmic movements of MLD can stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system, leading to relaxation and a reduction in pain perception.

What to Expect During Your Session

Unlike traditional massages, lymphatic drainage employs light, rhythmic strokes to stimulate lymph flow just beneath the skin’s surface. I follow a precise sequence, beginning with areas like the neck, armpits, and groin, to create pathways for congested lymph fluid to move toward functioning lymph nodes.

Considerations:

While Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is generally safe, it’s crucial to consult with your doctor or another healthcare professional before beginning this treatment, especially if you have underlying health conditions. Certain contraindications exist where MLD should be avoided, including:

  • Untreated Malignant Diseases: MLD is contraindicated in cases of untreated metastatic or systemic malignancies.
  • Acute Inflammation: Conditions caused by bacteria, viruses, or foreign bodies, characterized by redness, heat, pain, and fever, should not be treated with MLD until the acute phase has resolved.
  • Thrombosis: The presence of blood clots, particularly deep vein thrombosis, poses a risk of embolism, making MLD inappropriate.
  • Major Heart Problems: Severe cardiac conditions, such as untreated congestive heart failure, are contraindications due to the potential for exacerbating the condition.

Additionally, precautions are advised in cases of thyroid dysfunction, chronic inflammation, bronchial asthma and hypotension. It’s essential to discuss your medical history with a qualified therapist to ensure MLD is appropriate for you.
